Why to Consult
Why hire a script consultant or writing coach?
Quite simply, it helps to have help.
"Is my script amazing? Is it crap? I know something's not working but I can't tell what. I just don't know where to go from here. Help!"
Writing a screenplay is a long, sometimes very challenging process. It's hard to even tell what you've got sometimes.
Every writer and every story can benefit - often dramatically - from getting professional feedback and guidance.
As a script consultant and writing coach, my only intention is to serve you, your creative vision, your process and your story.
Don’t Go It Alone.
A writer’s work is lonely. Most of the time is spent in isolation. Or procrastinating, wandering the aisles of Staples. Totally enjoyable, but probably not really making your script better. (Although who doesn't like a nice fresh Sharpie?)
So how does this work?
I read your stuff. I hear your pitch. I write you feedback. We talk it through. Whatever you and your story need.
Sometimes we'll go deep. Like Jung deep. Like neuroplasticity deep. And sometimes we'll talk about how it's just like that scene in Caddyshack. Only different.
I'm here for you.
Be fearless!
Hiring me is a commitment to being fearless. I'm going to be nice, but I'm not going to lie to you. I'm going to tell you what impression your screenplay is making, where it's strong, where it's weak, what needs fixing, and help you figure out how to do it.
Please don't wait until your script is in the hands of a studio reader. Don't wait for your agent's assistant to be the first one to read it. It takes some serious chutzpah to look at your script as closely as you have to, but that's what I'm here for. To get your back. To guide you through. To give you some sound, practical, honest-but-kind advice on how to make your script the best it can be.
There are so many scripts out there, that if yours is even just a little bit better crafted, a little bit smarter, and a little more unique, you’ll have a huge upper hand.
Fearlessness and help: a very good combination.
Save Your Relationships!
Why not show your nice new script to your best friend? Well, most people in your life probably don’t have professional experience in guiding screenwriters through the writing process. Besides…
What do you secretly want? You want them to say, “I love it! You rock! You're the best writer ever!” It’s a lot to ask of someone.
Please, save the work for work, and let your relationships support you in other ways. And when you come up for air, shower your people with gratitude for leaving you alone to write. Presents don't hurt either.
